Agricultural Shows are famous for the promotion of ‘Crafts’ and Ballymena show has a tradition of working with local schools, Womens Institutes, YFCs, Homes and Day Centres to display the talents of the local people with Baking, Needlework, Crafts, Photography, Painting, Poetry and Flower Arranging. HOME INDUSTRIES – Chief Steward Mrs Linda Millar FLORAL ART – Chief Steward Mrs Mavis Speers Isobel Petticrew received the ‘Sara Orr’ Silver Salver for the Best Exhibit in the Floral Section but the ‘Ben Vista’ Rose Bowl was shared by Myrtle Calderwood, Karen Frew, Heather Kerr, Mary Knox, and Isobel Petticrew for the Exhibitor with the highest points in the Floral Art Open Section. The ‘Ballymena Borough Council’ Runcimann Bowl was awarded to Gracehill & Galgorm WI for the WI gaining the most Points In the WI Section (Ballymena District Institutes). Finally the ‘R & C Graphics’ Shield went to Athena Richards for the Best Overall Poem in the Schools section. |
